Santiago Calatrava’s exhibition at Georgia Tech brings together a unique selection of models, as well as architectural and artistic drawings that display the conception and design of 13 selected projects from around the world and in the USA. "Exploring the Art of Construction" is on exhibit until March 16, 2017, and may be seen at the Caddell Building exhibit space, at 280 Ferst Drive, NW.
These are 40 working models of Perpetual Motion Machines made in 4 years. Not all of them are perfect, but they are still the part of the history of the world engineering. The mankind is looking for free energy for 1000 years resulting of discovery three Laws of Thermodynamics stated that perpetual motion is impossible. SIGGRAPH 2015 Paper Video: Dyna: A Model of Dynamic Human Shape in Motion, Pons-Moll, G., Romero, J., Mahmood, N. and Black, M.J., ACM Transactions on Graphics, (Proc. SIGGRAPH), 2015. pdf: http://files.is.tue.mpg.de/black/papers/dyna.pdf project and data: http://dyna.is.tue.mpg.de/ Abstract: To look human, digital full-body avatars need to have soft tissue deformations like those of real people. We learn a model of soft-tissue deformations from examples using a high-resolution 4D capture system and a method that accurately registers a template mesh to sequences of 3D scans. Using over 40,000 scans of ten subjects, we learn how soft tissue motion causes mesh triangles to deform relative to a base 3D body model. Our Dyna model uses a low-dimensional linear subspace to approximate soft-ti...
More information: https://ait.ethz.ch/projects/2017/learning-human-motion-models/ Abstract: We propose a new architecture for the learning of predictive spatio-temporal motion models from data alone. Our approach, dubbed the Dropout Autoencoder LSTM (DAE-LSTM), is capable of synthesizing natural looking motion sequences over long-time horizons without catastrophic drift or motion degradation. The model consists of two components, a 3-layer recurrent neural network to model temporal aspects and a novel autoencoder that is trained to implicitly recover the spatial structure of the human skeleton via randomly removing information about joints during training. This Dropout Autoencoder (DAE) is then used to filter each predicted pose by a 3-layer LSTM network, reducing accumulation of correlat...
We derive models for motion using Newton’s law. We study constant gravitation and also the velocity-dependent force due to air resistance.

ACM Transactions on Graphics We present a new motion model, deformable motion models, for human motion modeling and synthesis. Our key idea is to apply statistical analysis techniques to a set of precaptured human motion data and construct a low-dimensional deformable motion model. Motion geometric and timing variations could be controlled via a small number of deformable paramters. To generate a desired animation, we continuously adjust the deformable parameters' values to match various forms of user specified constraints. Mathematically, we formulate the constraint based motion synthesis problem in a maximum a posteriori (MAP) framework by estimating the most likely deformable parameters from the user's input. We demonstrate the power and flexibility of our approach by exploring two inte...

Now, think about it. When you're on the skateboard, to get the skateboard to go, you move your foot backwards and the car goes forwards. That is exactly how rockets work. There's an action; you going back. And there's an opposite reaction, you’re going forward. Now think about a rocket ship. Something is pushing down, and the rocket goes up. But do rockets always have to go up? Could we make a rocket go, that way? I want to show you how we can make a rocket balloon car that works on the exact same principles as...
